Three Amazing Ideas

 Three Amazing Ideas

In this blog post, I would like to discuss my ‘3 Amazing Ideas’ for Media Project II. This term I need to create a project related to my progression route and present this on my website as a digital portfolio. As my progression route is Film studies and Media the final outcome could be an article of a 1000 words, a short film, a film review, or a documentary style video.

1. Magazine Article about Independent Film.

One of my ideas for this term is to write a (magazine) article introducing independent film. Independent films or Indie films are ‘film produced and distributed by smaller, independent entertainment companies with a considerably lower budget and characterized by the artistic signature of the writers and directors’ (Matt, 2021). Often independent films are different in style and genre compared to major film studios. In my article, I want to write about the history of independent film and discuss the work and background of important independent filmmakers and directors. In my article I would like to discuss the key characteristics of independent film such as the ‘freedom’ from major studios, and the idea of breaking with traditional rules of cinema. I would do research on independent film and create a magazine article using software like Lucidpress or Flipsnack. I think I will be able to complete this within the timeframe as I have previously worked with publishing software and designing layouts for articles.

2. Creating a short film

One of my other ideas is to create a short film for Media Project II. I really like romantic comedy films. Romantic comedy is a film genre that focusing on humorous plot about love story that ends happily. I also like this idea because I would like to learn more about filmmaking techniques and improve my

understanding of how a camera and camera settings work. Although I like the idea of creating a short

film I think it will be very challenging to achieve within the timeframe. I have little experience with

filmmaking and think the comedy genre is one of the most challenging genres to film. I do not think

I will be able to write and produce the short film within the timeframe and will focus on my first idea. If I would produce this short film the equipment, tools and software I would need are video camera, video editor with all tools. Plan to make short film:

1) Write the script;

2) Look for shooting locations

3)Get actors and a crew for the movie

4)Shoot the film

5)Edit the film

3. Cinéma vérité

My third project idea is to produce a documentary in Cinéma vérité style. Cinema verite are documentary

films with a natural effect and are mostly filming with simple equipment that showed people in everyday

situations with original dialogue and naturalness of action. The story I would like to capture is about student life. If I would produce this documentary the equipment, tools and software I would need are video camera, video editor with all tools.

  1. The ideas you have listed here are just three possible outcomes copied from the project brief. Please add your own project ideas here with commentary explaining each idea and add an image that exemplifies this. Be creative with presenting your ideas and be innovative in the project ideas that you propose for this term. I do not think that a film review is appropriate this term as you have written a review for Media Project I.
