Reflection to the article 'The fight Against Hollywood'

Image
For this project, I wanted to express the importance, origins and development of independent filmmaking. I analysed differences between studio films and independent film making. And I can say briefly that the difference between them is that studio films have a large budget and work according to the same scheme, while independent films are often with a smaller budget but more realistic and show life experience that deeply touches the viewer. I looked at examples of Avant-Garde cinema and experimental cinema and I feel they are among the independent films. Technically I was satisfied with the result, the article is designed like a magazine with images and attracts attention of the audience.

Research of independent film making

Image
I will look here at independent film making - festivals, Sundance. I will look at how independent film gets known - social media. Independent filmmaking is useful for first-time filmmakers like me or those shooting with a low-budget,however there are other reasons someone choose to produce films outside of the studio. Independent films-are controlled more by the creator when it comes to the content, voice, and style. Without big budget and fewer crew members at their direction, indie filmmakers can be more practical with their film productions, and have greater freedom to tell the story they want to tell. When independent film been shot and edited ( and screened it to peers for feedback), it's time to show it to the world. Indie film festivals like Sundance or SXSW are some of the bigger festivals, those festivals can help secure my project a film distributor, which means that I'll finally have an target audience for the indie film when I'll made that. Sundance Film Festival f...

Research with an example of how an independent film made

Image
Today I will doing research with an example of how an independent film made - Kevin Smith Clerks, The Blair Witch Project. 'There was no grand film career plan for me after Clerks', said Smith. 'The plan was to direct it. Making this movie meant we could show it to other people and get a little money for our next movie. We didn't think it would go out and hit a bunch of screens. I didn't think as many people who saw it would see it. I didn't think it would travel internationally.(Swinson,2020) I like the system by which Smith works.Usually he starts with very long drafts and whittle them down to more manageable, shootable drafts. While working on scripts, Smith then starts to cut pages, sharpen the jokes, and change, or sharpen points of view.  The film was shot for $27 575 and during this time director Smith was working in real life to raise this money. I can say his hard work and perseverance paid off and the film Clerks marked the beginning of his career in ci...

Future Research for Media Project 2

Image
What does independent filmmaking mean? Independent cinema is hard to diagnose and categorize. With no real consent, it is easier to refer to the common definition, that  any film which is created outside of the  studio system is called independent .    During the following years, ‘…independent film production fought the system of oligopoly, while rejecting key features of the studio-based system of production.’ (Tzioumakis, 2017). In my point of view New Hollywood Cinema gave lesser known producers a chance to compete with those prosperous opponents.  With the introduction and technological achievements of the time, portable cameras and sound equipment together with other filmmaking facilities were made cheaper and more budget friendly for these characters.  This helped them to create the films they wanted to, without the financial, aesthetic or ideological pressure of the major studios; which is a factor that can basically consider a film ‘independent’ alo...

Target audience Research

Image
Here I would like to present my target audience research. Nowadays, everyone uses social media to share their thoughts, student achievements, goals and projects etc. One of these global social networks is Twitter.  Twitter is easy-to-use and even the prime ministers of countries use it.  'As of April 2021, Twitter global audience was composed of 38,5 percent of users aged between 25 and 34 years old.The second-largest age group demographic on the platform was represented by users aged between 35 and 49 years old, with a share of almost 21 percent.'(SRD,2021) This is just that category of people who may be interested in looking at the project that I am doing. Therefore,I will use Twitter to attract attention as many users as possible to share and evaluate my project. On Twitter, users post and interact with messages known as 'tweets'.Registered users can post, like, and retweet my tweets, but unregistered users can only read tweets that are publicly available. Twitter is ve...

Reflection:Promising Young Woman

Image
In this project ,I wanted to express my view on the message from the film. In my film review I described that the boys should think about the fact that they can't sleep with drunk girls and it's bad to force them to do something that they would not do in a sober state. And also I state that society should not support men if they did wrong.  This may seem like a feminist controversy. I think that many people do not think about that soft compulsion which is discussed here. But in reality, Cassie is not presented in this film review as opposing only men, she also accuses the woman dean of the university for inaction, who did nothing to punish the bad boy.And also many other witnesses of the crime who turned a blind eye to the rape of the girl. Technically, I was happy with the outcome. It was a simple project, I used Lucidpress platform to create a film review that looks beautiful with the film's photos. To post the film review on the Wix website, I used a flipbook, which is ...

Research about narrative,mise-en-scene etc

Image
In this post I will research narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, lighting, camera angles/shot, edited in film 'Promising Young Woman'.                                                          Promising Young Woman (2020) The narrative in this movie tells us about young woman haunted by a traumatic past as she navigates balancing forgiveness and vengeance. The narrative shows, they are both psychological dramas with a strong female lead and both use lighting to bring out the psychology of the film. Mise en scene take a plase in Cassie's parents house, where she still lives, and in romantic scene in the pharmacy neon heightens the narrative in select environments. An experiment with colors was carried out. For example , at the Blue Star bar, a neon bright colors were used, and harsher lighting to show that the film was changing gear. In...

Other reviews of the film 'Promising Young Woman'

Image
In this post I will look at other reviews of the film 'Promising Young Woman' and explain the angle I will take and what I will concentrate on in my review.                                                         'Promising Young Woman'(2020) I looked at the film review made by Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian news website and he wrote about this film purely from a man position  - 'Carey Mulligan is at her ice-cold best as a sceming sociopath in this fearless unpicking of entitlement and victimhood. This playfully provocative and ingenious rape-revenge satire is about a society that thinks what a shame it would be if the career of a promising young man were ruined over some alleged incident in which both parties were probably drunk.'(Bradshaw,2021) Another example of a film review by Brian Tallerico shows that the author has extensive exper...

Research about Roger Ebert

Image
Here I will look at a film reviewer Roger Ebert and his work and discuss how he used language and who is his target audience.                                                              Roger Ebert (1942-2013) Roger Ebert has been one of the best in American film critic history. He worked as a film critic for Chicago Sun-Times from 1967 until his death in 2013.When he was appointed as a film critic he did not take any course in film, he studied independently from books. 'One of the gifts a movie lover can give another is the title of a wonderful film they have not yet discovered' ( Roger Ebert) Also he was teaching a film class in the University of Chicago's Fine Arts program. One of the reasons he started teaching was to teach himself. One friend  give him a good advice: 'Just pause the film and think about what you see....

Software choices

Image
The software that I will use to present my project work called Flipbook . Here I will show how to create flipbook and how to upload it to the  Wix website. I chose the magazine template from a variety of templates ... The first step that I need to take is to prepare pages with a film review on the Lucidpress platform and save them in PDF format. First , I made a title page, this was done by pressing the buttons Images and Text from toolbar menu as well as all subsequent pages. I have adjusted the dimensions of the images and the text so that they are coherently combined.  I saved 3 pages at a time, otherwise the limit was exceeded, and I have to pay for this, which I would not want. Therefore, I got 3 PDF files, each with 3 pages. Then I went to the Flipsnack website using my google account and through Upload PDF button I downloaded these files. It turned out wonderful flipbook. Then I copied embed code... and used embedded link on my website to present the flipbook here ...

It was pretty quick and easy and I was pleased with the result. After the article was written and edited with Lucidpress.com and saved in PDF format I pressed the button 'Upload PDF' and when the file was uploaded I clicked button 'Publish'. After the flipbook was created and published, I copied the embed code to transfer the flipbook to my website.

First draft of an article

Independent filmmaking   At the end of 1980s,  independent film got out of the wee “art houses” (specialized theaters) of some big American cities and planted itself a prominent appearance in society culture. Independent filmmakers see themselves as challenging the domination of Hollywood, avoiding entertainment—fantasy, enjoyment, happy endings—and instead suggesting abrupt and “edgy” narratives about life in modern society. This article will discuss the origins, development and importance of independent filmmaking . I will critically analyse differences between studio films and independent films. I will look at examples of Avant-Garde [1] cinema and experimental film and discuss this in relation to independent filmmaking. At the end of my article I will include ‘top 5 independent films to watch’ to encourage people to watch independent films.   “Hollywood” as both fantasy and material reality exercised control over the world of American entertainment for t...

Futher research for my media project

Image
M y research about independent filmmaking. ‘Indie is a sacred and fertile ground for creativity, free from the pressures of big budgets and studio meddling’ (Valentini,2020). From analysing this information I have seen that independent filmmaking exists as long as filmmaking has been around and it is essentially any movie without one of the big studios in the background. I have learned from it that independent filmmakers have more freedom to show the audience certain ideas and issues and challenging storytelling and the lack of a large budget pushes them to sophisticated methods of promoting their films. An example of independent film is Bait (2019) a  Cornish excursion that takes you into a 1950s style of dark and dreary storytelling  like Rosselini's Stromboli with Ingrid Bergmann. This excellent film showed me that here was achieved all its objectives of sadness, youthful descent, a withering industry, a capitalist invasion which are inherent in independent filmmakin...
